Get together with friends

The night before Halloween we got together with our friends to head to downtown Campbell to Trick-or-Treat, and enter a costume contest. Unfortunately Campbell did not organize the event to well and it was a little crazy. But Skylar had a blast and everyone loved his costume as he marched down the street. It was great!!

Looking back through some of these pictures of Skylar, I wanted to note a couple of other memories of that evening for posterity.

Skylar was an amazing trooper that day. His costume did not allow him to sit down and he was very difficult to carry. So Skylar had to walk the entire time. This was a very long walk for a boy his size, literally from one end of downtown Campbell to the other and back, weaving in and out of heavy pedestrian traffic the whole time. I picked him up on just 2 very brief occasions of no more than a couple minutes each. All the rest of those 90-100 minutes, Skylar marched proudly in his outfit. I think he was able to do it because of all the positive feedback he got from the crowds. So many people would comment "hey it's the Tin man", or "he's so cute!". I think he really felt proud of himself. He also carried that axe and wore that hard plastic funnel hat the entire time until we got to the parking lot where the contest was to happen about an hour into the walk. This just amazed me, again seeming as if he totally understood that it was all part of the costume and it was all part of the art. Skylar has always been one with a flare for the theatric and the rhetorical. You can tell from the pictures how he liked being the tin man.

The four Oz travelers were a great group! Liam was a wonderful happy little scarecrow, Dorothy was well-embodied by the ever-bubbly Morgan, and Cormac made the perfect softhearted and fun-loving lion. They all had a great time on this evening. It was a great event despite the fact that the "event" proper didn't really come off at all. After the walk, the four travelers returned to Morgan's house where the wild rumpus ensued. They had quite a blast with the hurly burly, bouncing off of each other around the living room til they were all tuckered out. It was a contact sport, but with a good nature to it. They treated each other as friends.

Skylar's dancing, which you can see in the parking lot shots, is a subject unto itself. Suffice it to say for now that Skylar is a party starter. Give him a beat and a stage and he'll bust a move, with creativity and charisma.
